The P60 Army Short Rifle

This is my P60 Army Short Rifle from James River Armoury that I have been shooting lately.  It is a reproduction aimed at the North - South Shooting Association market and as they do not have any standards as it pertains to historical rifling, it has a non regulation barrel with seven rectangular grooves with a 1-60 twist barrel from Bobby Hoyt, a reputable gunsmith in the trade.

The base rifle is a Euroarms P58 Naval Rifle that has been modified to include appropriate steel furniture and the lock has been tuned to give a trigger pull in the neighbourhood of 5 lbs.  Excellent quality sights have been fitted which are milled and give a very sharp sight picture.  The rear Baddely band was replaced and in its place is a Palmer type to make it correct for the P60 model.  Or course, all this cosmetic stuff is just that.... For me what is important, with this rifle, is that it is fun to shoot and is serviceable. I have an appropriate set of kit for it too.  This includes a P61 pattern ball bag or expense pouch and a cross belt mounted cap pouch, all in black as would have been worn in a Rifle Regiment, a primary user of this type of rifle.  The rifle uses musket caps and I have replaced the original nipple with a stainless steel one of a similar pattern.   This rifle has proved to be accurate and cleaning has not been an issue.
